NEW GLSCUA 'Clown Chatter' website.

Sparkplug has just been installed as President of GLSCUA, (Great Lakes Shrine Clown Unit Association), which means the Syrian Clowns will be hosting the GLSCUA convention next year.

Also, Speedy is the editor for the GLSCUA Clown Chatter. (They call me Speedy, 'cause I got no use for wasting time. Except, apparently, today.)

The GLSCUA website will have the latest news, take a look.

 Thinking about joining the clowns?

I believe with all of my heart, that no Unit in Shrinedom can do more for membership faster than we can. ALL of the Units are great in Shrinedom. ALL of the units can help enormously with membership. But CLOWNS DIRECTLY touch the hearts and lives of our kids. I think there is NO FASTER way to a man's heart than to see how he can help improve the life of a child. Clowns do that!

The crowd at parades is starting to look like us!

At the North College Hill parade I noticed a strange phenomenon...

Some people in the crowd look like clowns...

Or, some of our clowns really know how to enjoy a parade!

 The Clown Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to create more laughter than tears, dispense more happiness than gloom, spread more cheer than despair. Never let me grow so big that I will fail to see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the twinkle in the eyes of the aged. Never let me forget that I am a clown, that my work is to cheer people up, make them happy, and make them laugh, and make them forget momentarily all the unpleasant things in their lives.

The newest neophyte forgets how to spell his own name!

Boo Boo thinks his name is spelled Bo Bo

It took another neophyte to point out the error of his ways. Doc Pessler, 'P-Nut', says:

Speedy,
Here it is. The correct spelling is BOO BOO. We need to let our neophyte know.
P-Nut

 How Magic Works!

Most magicians won't tell you how their tricks work, but I'm going to let you in on a big secret.

There is no such thing as magic.

It's all a trick, done with clever hand movements, ingenious mechanical devices, and great showmanship.

But no magic.

But... if I can use a trick to distract you from your troubles for even a moment,

then it IS magic... for you... and for me also.

The best possible Christmas card you could get: This showed up in the ISCA email newsletter

I would just like to thank you for all your wonderful work that you have been doing. My daughter was badly burned this year and spent some time in Shriner's of Cincinnati. Your clowns came in and made her smile. It was one of the first genuine smiles she showed since her accident. I think all the work you do is marvelous and I just wanted to wish the Syrian Temple a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. With all our family's love and best wishes.

The Bullimores.

 Clown Insurance
When you're clowning at an official Syrian Shrine event, you are covered by Syrian's insurance policy. If you're going to clown at any other events, you should get some insurance. Those interested in obtaining clown insurance, contact:    The cost is $95 per year for $2 million liability with no deductible. The insurance year runs from April 25, 2000 to April 25, 2001. So now is the time to act, if you are interested.
